Dear Fellow Bronx Science Parents and Guardians,
We were thrilled to see so many of you online this past Thursday at our January Parents’ Association meeting where we were fortunate to hear two presentations, one by Principal Hoyle about summer opportunities for our students, and the other by ADA Chris Edel of the NYC District Attorney’s office about the dangers of fentanyl. It takes the whole community to support and guide our youth in making informed decisions and staying away from the dangers of fentanyl. Please click HERE for slides from Mr. Edel’s presentation.
It was also wonderful to see so many of you at the Coffee with the Principal this week! We had an impressive turnout despite the cold! Many thanks to Assistant Principals Andrew Nasser and Allison Davis for their informative presentation. If you missed it, do not worry. The topic will be presented again at our PA meeting on February 13.
At the Coffee with the Principal, the school administration generated a live Chinese translation which was accurate and very effective! We appreciate the school’s effort to bridge the language barrier for parents/guardians and hope that multiple languages can be added in the future.
A big thank you to Hospitality Chair Fotini Marcopulos and volunteers Luisa LaFleur and Wei Sun, who provided hot coffee and snacks for parents and guardians.
Annual Fund update! We appreciate all the donations that we have received in support of the Annual Fund. We have raised $214,333 so far and have achieved 75% of our annual goal with 25% to go! Please donate today! While the suggested donation amount is $750 per child, no amount is too small when it comes to supporting our students! Our goal is 100% participation. Please see the Annual Fund post below for information about how to contribute.
The Bx Science PA is pleased to announce that we will be hosting our 4th Annual Night Out at Yankee Stadium on Friday, May 2 at 7:05 PM! We are very excited about this wonderful and fun community building event! Please see the post below for more details and to purchase tickets.
On Tuesday night, many, including our Vice President Helen Goldman, logged on to attend the remote High School Superintendent Candidate Virtual Town Hall hosted by the Bronx HS Presidents’ Council as it searches for a new District Superintendent. Three candidates presented and answered questions posed by parent leaders. Bronx Science’s presence was noted and appreciated by our leaders, so we are very grateful that many of you participated in this community event. For other community events, please check the post below. Thank you!
Please “Save the Date” for our next virtual Parents’ Association meeting on Thursday, February 13, which will feature a repeat of the course selection presentation for our 9th, 10th, and 11th grade parents. For our senior parents/guardians and those who are comfortable with the course selection process, we will feature a separate panel of former Bronx Science parents/guardians who will share their thoughts about “What I Wish I Knew Before My Kid Went to College.” These are two of our most enlightening presentations and panels, and we hope that you will be able to join us.
Call for volunteers! This May, we will hold elections for all the 2025–2026 Parents’ Association positions. We are currently looking for several individuals to join our Nominating Committee, which runs the elections. If you are interested in joining the committee, please email corecordingsecretary@bxsciencepa.org. For more information about the committee, please contact the presidents at president@bxsciencepa.org. As we discussed during the PA meeting, there are many opportunities to serve the Bronx Science community, either by running for an Executive Board position or by serving on a PA committee. For information about opportunities for the 2025-2026 school year, please see the post below.
Please take some time on Monday to contemplate the life and contributions to civil rights of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. as we celebrate his birthday. We wish you a wonderful week and wish all of our students the best on their mid-year exams!
Sincerely,
Xia (Lisa) Li, Jennifer Allen-Cheng, and Arthur Wong
