After-school clubs are an important part of our children’s BxSci experience. There are more than 80 of them, covering a wide range of student interests. The PA pays for the faculty advisors required for each of these clubs, but otherwise the clubs don’t have access to funds (apart from the $20 to $150 each club raised at last month’s Food Fair).
The PA would like to change that. We are proposing an $8,000 “club activities” fund as a new line item in the PA’s expense budget for this school year. The money would come from the PA’s existing surplus, and therefore won’t require additional PA fundraising. It will allow clubs to purchase needed items: for instance, if the Painting Club needs new paint and paintbrushes, or if the Badminton Club needs new rackets, they can request the funds they need. (Each request for funding would of course be reviewed and approved by the school administration.)
We believe that giving the students access to a bit of additional funding could unleash some great new ideas and energy within the clubs. We will vote on this proposal at the March 15 meeting. We will also vote to approve the February meeting minutes, which you can review by clicking here.
