Dear Fellow Bronx Science Parents and Guardians,

First, we are super excited to welcome you all to the Rock and Raise Spring Gala, this Thursday, April 11, 6-9 PM at Temple Emanu-El. If you have not purchased your tickets yet, do that now at this link!

Ticket sales close at 11:59 PM tonight! While you are on the website, be sure to check out the online auction, place your bids, and preview the items that will be sold during the live auction! We hope to see you there, and look forward to dancing the night away while we raise money for our kids.

Then, the following week, it’s time to get down to business. We are pleased to be welcoming our high school Superintendent Fia Davis to our next PA meeting which will be held in person at the school on Wednesday, April 17, at 7 PM. We’ll serve a light dinner beginning at 6:30, and will begin the meeting promptly at 7. You can find the agenda here and the March minutes here.

During the meeting, we will be voting on some bylaw changes as presented at the March general meeting, which you can find here. Please note that article 4.2.3 has an additional change from 2 to 3. Then, we will be taking final nominations for the PA Executive Board from the floor, prior to the close of Executive Board nominations at 11:59 PM on April 17. We will also be taking nominations for the School Leadership Team from the floor that night, though those nominations will stay open until the election in May. For more information, please see the Nominations Committee post below, and send nominations to nominations@bxsciencepa.org.

Following the business portion of the evening, we are pleased to be presenting a student panel moderated by AP of Guidance, Andrew Nasser, on “How to Have Difficult Conversations with Teens”. This panel has historically been well attended, emotional, and extremely valuable to our parents and guardians. Please use this form link to RSVP for dinner and to submit your questions in advance of that meeting. The topic of “Teens and Substance Abuse” will be rescheduled for a later date this spring, so please stay tuned for more information on this important topic.

We have more opportunities to volunteer coming up in April! First, on April 16th, we will be hosting the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony and Dinner. We need volunteers from 3:00 PM-7:30 PM to help our Hospitality Team and Junior student volunteers set up, serve, and clean up dinner for the Senior NHS honorees and their guests. Parents of Junior members, this is a great opportunity to get a sneak preview of what your celebration will look like next year, and to help your kids in service to their peers and school. The link to sign up is here.

Then, the day we come back from Spring Break, May 1, Bronx Science is hosting our annual College Fair. We need volunteers to set up dinner for the College reps and to help serve and clean up. You can sign up to help at this link.

Looking ahead to May, we invite all Bronx Science families, friends, and staff to join us for a Night Out at Yankee Stadium on May 17th at 7:05 PM. Come cheer for the Yankees as they take on the Chicago White Sox! Nothing beats baseball and bonding in the Bronx! Thank you to Nicole Allen for organizing this Bronx Science tradition. Tickets can be purchased here from today until May 9.

Please see the Looking Ahead post below for more dates to come, and we hope that you are able to step outside and enjoy the eclipse tomorrow!

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Polkovitz, Jennifer Allen-Cheng, and Christine Kattan
