Bronx High School of Science Parents' Assocation

Safety Update

The Bronx Science Safety Committee met this past Thursday. Given the recent accident where a Bronx Science student was hit by a city bus, the committee focused on ways to make 205th Street safer for our kids. Three important points were made at the meeting:

  1. The school will request additional signage from the Department of Transportation, instructing traffic to move slowly while in front of the school.
  2. Parents are asked to refrain from double parking in front of the school. The student who was hit came out to cross the street between two double parked cars. Because of this, he did not see the bus and the bus driver did not see him. If you need to double park, please do so on Goulden or Paul Avenues, where student pedestrian traffic is much lighter.
  3. Please remind your child to cross at the marked crosswalks on the corners. Crossing mid-block is hazardous.

Stay tuned for more news from the Safety Committee.
