December 17, 2023
Dear Fellow Bronx Science Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the holiday break, we wanted to reflect on the first four months of the school year and to thank everyone who has contributed to the community and PA. We are grateful to those who help make our events possible, which could not happen without the dedicated and energetic support of our volunteers.
It was wonderful to see those of you who could attend this week’s December PA meeting and holiday gathering! The turnout was terrific, and it was a pleasure to see so many parents enjoying good food and conversation and excitedly purchasing Bronx Science swag. The PA would like to thank Lilach Bar, Kosaku Shinoda and Ernie Sander, who directed our hospitality and merchandise efforts and helped create an atmosphere of holiday cheer. Please see the In The Spotlight post below for acknowledgement of all volunteers for this event.
The main event of the evening was a panel of Bronx Science students, moderated by AP Andrew Nasser, who discussed how they utilize Guidance Department resources and how Guidance has worked with them throughout their time at Bronx Science. The PA expresses our deepest gratitude to Mr. Nasser and students Chanel Champagnie ’24, Derek Chen ’24, Kishan Dey ’25, and Samantha Schellenberg ’26 who graciously shared their time, personal insights and experiences with us.
As we look ahead to 2024, we are excited about holding more gatherings and the PA can use your help. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the PA, and we rely on our community members to share their time, effort, and ideas. We are currently still seeking additional members to join our tech team in order to provide a hybrid PA meeting option. Please see here for information on the tech role and reach out to us at president@bxsciencepa.org if you are able to join this team.
We also welcome any donations to the PA Annual Fund. Thank you all for your contributions so far this year! Your financial support helps our students in countless, marvelous ways! The PA is proud to support many clubs, teams, and activities, along with additional festivities and performances this month. We encourage our community to take advantage of these magnificent performances as well! This week, treat your family and yourself to a free Winter Concert put on by the Music Department on December 19 and 20. Details can be found here. Then, we hope you will donate at this link. We remind you that donations must be made by December 31 to be tax-deductible for 2023.
Finally, please mark your calendar for our first PA meeting in the new year on January 17 at 7PM. This meeting will feature a panel discussion with outside professionals titled “Teens and Mental Health.” This promises to be another engaging conversation, so we hope you will join us in person. Be on the lookout for meeting details in our next e-newsletter on January 7.
We hope you have a restful holiday break, Bronx Science. We look forward to seeing you in 2024!
Sincerely,
Christine Kattan, Elizabeth Polkovitz, and Jennifer Allen-Cheng
