The Parents’ Association (PA) is preparing to welcome our incoming families, and we look forward to connecting with our entire Bronx Science community when school begins next month.
In the meantime, here are some ways you can stay informed, get involved, and see a glimpse of what’s to come. Please save the dates for upcoming events, including a back-to-school outdoor social on Saturday, September 9!
Staying Informed
As your PA Presidents, we will update you about PA events and activities via this weekly Sunday e-newsletter. Visit the PA website, where you can find a copy of our e-newsletter, along with additional PA information. Join the Bronx Science PA Facebook page and the Bronx Science/HSAS Transportation page to access information from our parent community. Finally, we urge you to become familiar with the school website, which is your best source of information about the school.
Involvement
As a Bronx Science parent or guardian, you are a voting member of the PA, which needs the enthusiastic engagement of our families. We welcome you to join us at our monthly meetings, where we strive to bring topics of interest to you. Please complete this important survey, so we may best serve our community.We also invite you to join us at other events and encourage you to stay involved. This participation is the backbone of our vibrant parent community!
What better way to participate than to welcome our newest generation of 9th and incoming 10th grade families during the Incoming Parent Orientation reception on September 13! Returning parents and guardians, please sign up here to assist with our hospitality and merchandise needs.
To our incoming parents and guardians, there will be an opportunity for you to join our PA Executive Board and the School Leadership Team (SLT) this fall. Look for more information in the next e-newsletter.

Upcoming Events
Tuesday, August 29, 6-8 PM: Superintendent Fia Davis invites all Bronx Science families to attend her Virtual Parent Town Hall. Bronx Science’s attendance matters and makes a difference in our relationship with our district! Please see the Virtual Parent Town Hall post for more information.
Saturday, September 9, 5-7 PM: To kick off the school year, we invite all Bronx Science families to a Back-to-School Outdoor Social at Ellington in the Park. This fun annual tradition provides a fantastic opportunity for us to connect in person! Please see the Back-to-School Social post below for more details.
Wednesday, September 13: The PA is delighted to host a reception following the Incoming Parent Orientation at school. We invite our 9th and new 10th grade parents to come grab a bite, mingle, and buy some Bronx Science swag! 10th, 11th and 12th grade parents and guardians, please click here for event time and to volunteer.
Wednesday, September 20, 7 PM: Our first PA meeting will be held in person at Bronx Science. Following regular business, we will break out into meaningful sessions covering topics of importance by grade. A remote option will be provided prior to the meeting. Please see the 2023-24 PA Meeting Dates post below for a full list of dates.
We look forward to meeting you at Ellington in the Park on September 9! Until then, please remember to tune into the town hall, fill out the PA survey, sign up to assist at the September 13 orientation event, and mark the PA meetings in your calendars.

The PA is actively recruiting for the 2023-24 school year. This is a great chance to give back to our school, while being a part of this special community! No experience is necessary – our seasoned chairs will guide you. We are also actively recruiting for several key roles.COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Merchandise Committee (Priority Need): The Merchandise Committee is responsible for large sales several times a year, as well as for re-orders and liaising with our merchandise supplier. The PA needs to form a core team of 5–6 individuals who can rotate as event leads and help with ordering, inventory, etc. This role can be flexible! Hospitality Committee: This committee provides beautiful breakfast and lunch spreads for several events including Teacher Appreciation Day, Senior Awards, Alumni Day, and more. We are looking for additional parents willing to serve on a core team who can rotate at events. This role can be flexible! Please contact Co-Chairs Lilach Bar and Kosaku Shinoda at hospitality@bxsciencepa.org.
Spring Gala Committee: If you have a background in event planning, enjoy throwing a party, or have a background in fundraising, we need you! We are looking for additional committee members to help plan our most highly anticipated event of the year. This role can be flexible! Please contact Co-Chairs Shirah Wercberger and Gabrielle Koelbel at auctionchair@bxsciencepa.org.
Translation Teams: The PA is currently in the initial stages of forming additional teams for both written and spoken translation in several languages. If you are a fluent speaker and/or writer in Bengali, Spanish or Korean, and are interested in leading or serving on a team, please reach out to the PA Presidents at president@bxsciencepa.org.
AVAILABLE ROLES
Constant Contact Manager: We are seeking one additional volunteer to join our current managers, Jamileh-Sofia diGuida and Roxana Cheng.
This team formats weekly e-newsletters, assists with gala communication, and updates the PA data bank.
● No prior experience required. Will be trained on the Constant Contact tool and be supported by current managers!
● Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, or Mac products
● Graphic design skills – a super plus, but not required.

Webmaster: We are seeking one volunteer to join current Webmasters, Dorie Paparo and Monika Wunderer.
This team updates content on the PA website using WordPress.
● Time commitment is approximately a few hours every other week.
● No prior experience required. Will be trained and supported by the current team.
● An eye for editing and copy details is helpful!
