Applications for Education Councils are open through Monday, February 13, 2023, for elections this spring. NYC has 32 Community Education Councils for grades PreK-8 and 4 Citywide Councils, including one for High Schools. Education Councils advocate for schools in their district or group, and they make decisions and recommendations regarding education in their communities. In addition, members of the Community Education Councils vote for borough wide representatives to the Panel For Educational Policy, which makes important decisions about budgets and school utilization. We encourage anyone with an interest in citywide education issues to consider running, especially anyone who has younger children and is eligible for a PreK-8 Community Education Council. If you are interested, please reach out to us. We can give you more details and can connect you to parents who have run and have served. Check out the DOE flyer here.
