Dear Fellow Bronx Science Parents and Guardians,

As we approach Thanksgiving, we are reminded of how thankful we are to be part of the Bronx Science community, and this past week was all about giving thanks and giving back.

On Tuesday, Bronx Science held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new Manne Institute, a state-of-the-art, 10,000 sq ft research facility that strengthens Bronx Science’s reputation as one of the leading student research schools in the country and provides a transformative contribution to our city. The Manne Institute was made possible by the generosity of Stanley Manne, Bronx Science Class of ‘52, who made the single largest donation to a public school in New York’s history to fund the Institute. It was also made possible by the dedication and support from Eleanor Coufos, VP of the Alumni Foundation, the entire Alumni Foundation and the support from our local city leaders. During the ceremony, as Mr. Manne was being thanked for his generous gift to the world of science, he reminded us of the importance of giving thanks by giving back.

We had other reasons to be thankful this past week. Our school community is fortunate to have an administration that consistently addresses mental health topics, and during last week’s PA meeting, we were joined by esteemed panelists Dr. Laura Roberts and Dr. Amanda Wallace to discuss the topic of teens and mental health, moderated by our own AP of Guidance, Andrew Nasser. We are grateful for their wisdom on this important subject and on behalf of our community, we thank them for the generosity of their time, and echo Mr. Nasser’s recognition of their giving back. If you missed out on this important discussion, you may find it here at the 39:00 mark.

On November 14, the Bronx Science Student Council also gave thanks during their “Seniors Give Back!” festival. Seniors created bracelets and decorated banners to show their appreciation for their families, friends, teachers, guidance counselors, and faculty. The Senior Council thanks the PA community for their continued support!

Upcoming PA Dates to Remember

Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving, is on November 29. As you consider the different organizations and causes you would like to support, we ask that you consider a year-end gift to the Bronx Science Parents’ Association Annual Fund. Your donations help cover the cost of so many important programs that benefit our children and continue to provide them with a world-class education. Learn more about the Annual Fund here.  Prefer to donate by check? Please visit our PA website here for more information.

Next PA Meeting. Please mark your calendars for our next in-person PA meeting on Tuesday, December 13. There will be pre-meeting festivities starting at 6:00 PM with food, swag sales and a chance for our community to gather and celebrate. We are pleased to announce our guest speaker will be Eleanor Coufos, Class of ‘99 and VP of the Alumni Foundation. Eleanor will share her wealth of knowledge and tips on how our kids can make the most out of their summers, and this is your opportunity to learn more about the Alumni Foundation. This is a night you won’t want to miss! We will also need volunteers for this event, so please be on the lookout for more information.

Coffee with the Principal. Eleanor will also be joining us for our second Coffee With The Principal meeting for this school year, which will be held on Thursday, December 8th, from 8:30-9:30 AM, in person, at the school. This event will not be recorded. RSVP for this event here by Thursday, December 1st at 9:00 AM.

Please note that, as per Department of Education mandate, visitors to the school building need to present photo identification and proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

We wish you and your families a Happy Thanksgiving and hope everyone gets to recharge over the Thanksgiving break. The PA continues to be thankful for this wonderful community and for your support. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Coffee with the Principal on December 8th and at our next PA meeting and holiday gathering on December 13th.

Look for our next e-newsletter on Sunday, December 4th.

Sincerely,

Christine Kattan, Jayesh Patel and Elizabeth Polkovitz
