Dear Fellow Parents & Guardians:
It was a particularly eventful week. Tuesday’s PA meeting featured a panel of mental health professionals along with our very own Family Healing Ambassador, Alison Gardy, who, as a group, offered incredibly valuable advice on how to navigate the emotions and stress for parents and teenagers as we continue to re-engage with the world. If you missed it, you can watch the recording here. And then there was Thursday (see Safety Update below).
But for now, we remind you that we’re looking forward to seeing you in-person on Wednesday, December 15th at 6:30pm for a return-to-BxSci/end-of-the-year/holiday celebration and final PA meeting of the calendar year. Our featured guest will be Eleanor Coufos (Class of ’99), VP of the Bronx High School of Science Alumni Foundation. The Alumni Foundation (AF) is the primary source of funding and enrichment for our students and school. Eleanor will share her wealth of knowledge with us, including exciting AF-driven Bronx Science developments, and tips for how our kids can make the most of their summers.
Because this is the first time back in 20 months, and because it’s so close to the holidays, we will be turning this into a first-of-its-kind, post-virtual, pre-meeting celebration! Come hungry as the PA will convert the school gymnasium into an alcohol-free, COVID-protocol-guided happy hour lounge. Plus, bring your checkbook and prepare to do some holiday shopping at the first live Bronx Science swag market. Be prepared for an evening of fun, solidarity and holiday cheer.
In that spirit, we are asking for a little help:
For those who have been waiting for an opportunity to volunteer for the PA, this is your moment. Please consider signing up here for set-up, food service, merchandise sales and/or clean-up.
Also, please note: The school will require that all attendees show proof of full vaccination and present a DOE health screening survey (the same ones our kids fill out daily). Look for more info in the coming weeks.
But for now, this Thursday provides the perfect opportunity to take stock of the much for which we have to be thankful. Have a fantastic Thanksgiving and a wonderful break.
Cheers,
Jerome Kramer & Cliff Stanton

IMPORTANT SAFETY UPDATE: Last Thursday’s events served as a sobering reminder of the perils and unfortunate realities of life in 21st Century America. But ultimately an outside threat (later deemed non-credible) to our school was handled thanks to meticulous planning, preparation and leadership. The PA would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the members of the Bronx Science School Safety Team, our entire faculty, and the responding officers of the NYPD for managing a tense few hours at the school in textbook fashion. We also want to thank our membership for keeping its collective cool and not making an alarming situation worse. Finally, kudos to our kids for keeping calm, following instructions and remaining upbeat during the shelter-in-place. Way to go, Bronx Science!
