Dear Fellow Parents & Guardians,
Our next PA meeting will be this Tuesday, November 16th. Assistant Principal Andrew Nasser will be back with a panel of experts addressing the challenges of being a teenager in uncertain times. The theme, though lightheartedly dubbed Teenage Angstland, will provide an important look at how we as parents can support our kids as they continue to re-engage in-person with the world. The panelists will include Alison Gardy, nonprofit consultant and Bronx Science’s inaugural parent volunteer Family Healing Ambassador, a position created under a new DOE initiative to make schools into centers of community self-care and healing; Dr. Heather Goodman, Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, Weill Cornell Medicine and Assistant Attending in Clinical Psychiatry, New York Presbyterian Hospital; and Dr. Dara Huang, Double Board Certified Physician Specializing in Internal Medicine and Kidney and Hypertension, Bronx Science ’95.
The following sentiment expressed by a Baltimore high school student featured in this NYT article captures the essence of what our kids have endured and at least part of what the evening will be trying to address… “For some, it was a time of reflection. For many, it was a dark period of isolation. For a generation, it was a defining collective experience.” — Parrish André, 18
