Dear Parents & Guardians:
We start today’s e-newsletter with a clear and blunt message based on guidance from the CDC: We strongly encourage all of our families to get vaccinated as soon as it becomes available to you.
ALL New Yorkers ages 16 and up can now get their COVID-19 vaccine without an appointment at these select sites across the city! Check out a complete list of vaccination sites at Vaccine Finder NYC. The sooner we are all vaccinated, the sooner things will truly improve.
For the families of Seniors: In order to be admitted into Arthur Ashe Stadium on Thursday, June 24th for our graduation ceremony, graduating seniors AND their guests must provide one of the following:
1) Proof of vaccination
2) Proof of a negative Covid PCR test within 72 hours of the ceremony
3) Proof of a negative Covid rapid test within 6 hours of the ceremony
So again, we strongly recommend vaccinations for all, but it is particularly important for the families of seniors hoping to attend graduation,as you then won’t have to worry about getting a test and timing it close to graduation. If you do choose the vaccine path, note that you must be two weeks past your final dose of the vaccine. Working backward, this means that you need to receive your first shot of a two-dose vaccine (i.e., Pfizer or Moderna) by approximately May 12th.
Again, if you do not meet at least one of the requirements listed above, YOU WILL NOT BE ADMITTED TO GRADUATION.
In order to help families meet this May 12th first-dose deadline, we have set up a special email address for any vaccine-related questions. PA volunteers will staff this mailbox and attempt to assist anyone who may need help finding a site, arranging for transportation, etc.: seniors21@bxsciencepa.org. Feel free to contact us with any questions that may arise.
For families interested in private-bus service, be sure to read the box below as well as the email sent from the PA on Friday, April 23rd.
We also want to continue to encourage the school community to think about how our experiences over the last year have affected us, for both better and worse. Our goal is to attain a better understanding of how we were impacted by the events of the past year and to help inform how we may want to document and memorialize this remarkable period. We also hope to gain insight about how the future may unfold for Bronx Science.
Toward those ends, we are again attaching a brief survey here which asks you to share some of those thoughts and experiences with us. We understand that some of the questions and your answers (should you choose to respond), may stir some emotions. If that’s not something you feel prepared to handle at this time, we completely understand. However, as the light at the end of the tunnel starts to shine brighter, we believe it’s important for us to more fully comprehend the impact of the year on our community.
Our next PA meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 11th. At this meeting, Principal Rachel Hoyle will deliver her State of the School report. We will also be holding elections for Executive Board and School Leadership Team positions (see the list of nominees below). We encourage all parents to participate.
Finally, it’s time to get our auction game faces on. Our online auction begins Saturday, May 1st. See details below. Happy hunting!
