Dear Parents & Guardians:
As we wrap up the month of February, we want to remind you that our next Comedy Night is this Thursday, March 4th! If you missed our last one in November, you’ve probably already heard it was a big hit. Don’t miss what promises to be another evening of hilarity featuring Bronx Science’s very own Queen of Comedy, Zarna Garg. See details below.
Meanwhile, we want to extend our great thanks to Bronx Science senior Miles Yamner and the S.O.’s Do Something Club for organizing and moderating a panel discussion last Tuesday on the role that race and structural injustices play in the U.S. higher education system.
We were honored to have the discussion kick off with this special video greeting from New Jersey Senator, Cory Booker.
The panel was anchored by author Jeff Hobbs (Show Them You’re Good and The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace) and included Harvard fellow and author Keith Benson (The Power and the Glory: The Racial History of America and How to Fix It); Yale senior and DACA recipient Carlos Rodriguez Cortez, who was featured in Hobbs’s recent book; and Rutgers graduate Ahava Divine. The PA was proud to partner with the S.O. on this event and we hope it will be the beginning of many more collaborations in the future. If you missed it, you can check it out here.
Also last week, we were pleased to host our second PA Book Club discussion, this time on Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma. Thank you to Educational Enrichment Committee parent Carol LaHines for guiding our talk. Our selection for March is Pachinko by Min Jin Lee (Bronx Science class of 1986). We hope you will join us on Wednesday, March 24th at 7pm for that discussion. Please RSVP to BxSciPABookClub@gmail.com and mention “Pachinko.”
Finally, please mark your calendars for our next PA meeting on Monday, March 15th at 7pm, where Assistant Principal Andrew Nasser will moderate a student panel. Topic: How to Have Difficult Conversations with Teens.
Stay safe Bronx Science,
Jerome Kramer and Cliff Stanton
