Don’t Miss “Parenting in the Digital Age: Talking with Your Teenager About Internet Safety” Wednesday, November 18th at 7 p.m.
Please plan to attend Wednesday’s Parents’ Association meeting at 7 p.m. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Douglas Brodman, a postdoctoral fellow at NYU Child Study Center where – among other responsibilities – he specializes in developing behavior management strategies and parent-child interaction therapy.
Examining the Problem: The amount of digital media teenagers consume is growing steadily. Social media platforms, video games, and unrestricted access to information are all part of our world today. The increasing level of involvement and nature of online interactions raises many questions about safety and usage. How much is too much? What is appropriate use and what isn’t? How do we stay involved even as our teens demand more independence? How do we help our kids stay safe?
Offering Solutions: Dr. Brodman will answer these questions and yours. In addition he will examine the issues related to internet use by teens, the characteristics of problematic use, and the need for parental involvement. He will also provide a helpful frame for thinking about these complex issues and ways in which parents can help their teenagers navigate the digital landscape.
Vallo will provide free transportation from Manhattan and Queens. Click here for info on how to reserve your seat on the bus by noon Tuesday.
