Candidate Bios – May 2026 Election
候选人简介 – 2026年5月选举
Candidates for PA Executive Board
MaryAnn Carlese, Co-President
I’m the parent of an 11th-grader and I’m running for Co-President. For the past three years, I’ve served on the Bronx Science Parents Association—first as a member-at-large, then as assistant treasurer, and this academic year (2025-26) as a Co-President. This year, I helped launch our first Lunar New Year celebration, led several fundraising efforts, and supported multiple student and family events. As Co-Presidents, we partner closely with the treasury team to maintain a strong budget that funds meaningful opportunities for students. In my role at Columbia University, I help lead our LGBTQ employee resource group, which promotes LGBTQ inclusion. I’m seeking another term as Bronx Science PA Co-President to sustain the school’s tradition of successful events and to support teachers, staff, students, and families. I enjoy building community, honoring differences, and helping everyone feel welcome. If elected, I’ll expand and diversify ways for families to get involved so more people feel connected to our community.
Sovannary Tan, Co-President
I am the proud parent of Shepherd Lamtan, a sophomore, running for a second term as Co-President. While Bronx Science is a large school, volunteering with the PA has made this environment feel personal and close-knit.
A vital part of my first term has been collaborating with the school administration to ensure our PA programs allow more visibility and support to families as we navigate the high school experience and college preparations. I bring a deep background in community leadership to this role, having previously co-chaired the “Taste of Tribeca” fundraiser (raising a net $160,000) and founding a successful Math Club at PS 150. Professionally, I work as a software engineering director at a financial institution. Although my career is demanding, the satisfaction I find in building this PA community and watching our students thrive is incredibly rewarding.
High school goes by quickly, and I am moved by seeing graduating parents pass the torch to a new generation. I would love to continue rolling up my sleeves, working alongside both parents and staff to strengthen our school as your Co-President.
Fotini (Fo) Marcopulos, Co-President
Marina Bibawi, Co-Vice President
I am thrilled to be running for Co-Vice President of the Bronx Science Executive Board alongside many of my trusted Executive Board Members!
As a proud parent of a 9th grader, I have greatly enjoyed getting involved in the vibrant Bronx Science Community this year and helping out in a variety of roles – as Member-at-Large on the Executive Board, as sponsorship and set-up co-lead for the Benefit Bash, and as a Safety Committee parent representative. I also enjoy helping out with merchandise sales whenever I can! I hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the History of Art and have a residential interior design business.
I have always valued active participation in any Parents Association as a vital way to ensure a safe and enriching educational experience for our children, and a way to foster an inclusive and dynamic environment for the school community with meaningful programming. I look forward to working with this very dedicated team for another year!
Oulfa Laamarti, Co-Vice President
I am a parent at Bronx High School of Science and am excited to run for Co–Vice President. This year, I served as Co-Chair of the Hospitality Committee, alongside Fo and Leila, where I enjoyed being actively involved in the school community, organizing events, and helping create a welcoming environment for students, families, and staff.
Through this role, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with other parents and school leadership, and I’ve truly valued building connections and contributing in a meaningful way. I am interested in the Co–Vice President position because I would like to deepen my involvement and support the Parent Association more broadly.
I bring a strong sense of organization, reliability, and a collaborative spirit. I am committed to clear communication, supporting school initiatives, and ensuring that parents feel informed and included. I look forward to continuing to contribute my time and energy to strengthen our school community.
Arthur Wong, Co-Vice President
Arthur Wong is completing his second year as Co-President of the Bronx Science Parents’ Association and is now running for Co–Vice President. He previously served on the Executive Board as a Member-at-Large when his daughter, Suri, was a freshman (now a junior).
Arthur brings long-standing PA leadership experience, having served for eight years as Vice President of the Parent Association at Suri’s former school, HudsonWay Immersion School. Over the past three years at Bronx Science, he has worked as a servant-leader to strengthen community support helping fundraising reach record levels and championing special projects, including the recent purchase of Wolverine TV.
Arthur is an Associate Director of Customer Experience Strategy at Verizon and lives with his family on the Upper West Side. He is eager to continue serving the Bronx Science community during Suri’s final year.
Sneha Kelkar, Co-Recording Secretary
Hello! My name is Sneha Kelkar. I’m the parent of a 10th-grader and currently serve as Co-Recording Secretary on the PA Executive Board. I’m submitting my nomination to continue in this role for a second year. This past year has been very productive. Our entire parent community at Bronx Science is committed to give our kids the best at school. I am proud to get a chance to be a part of a board that represents this spirit.
I’m a Columbia University graduate, working as a director at a healthcare consulting firm. My professional experience and attention to detail have helped me succeed as Co-Recording Secretary and contribute to other Executive Board efforts. This year, I’ve also seen my daughter take advantage of the many opportunities available at Bronx Science, supported by dedicated teachers and counselors. I would be honored to continue serving as Co-Recording Secretary. Thank you for your consideration.
Virginia Louie, Co-Recording Secretary
I am seeking to serve my second year as co-recording secretary and it is an honor to be running as part of a slate with Sneha Kelkar and Bella Wollan. By way of introduction, I am a busy mom to Andrew, a current junior at Bronx Science (as well as a college freshman and a sixth-grader). We live on the Upper West Side. When I’m not on mom duty, I work as in-house counsel at a management consulting company.
Over the past year, I have enjoyed getting to know many of the parents at Bronx Science, especially at PA meetings and also by helping out at other events such as the open houses for prospective and admitted students. I want to continue to be actively involved in my children’s education, and one of the ways to do that is to volunteer my time and effort as part of the PA Executive Board. Along with all of the other dedicated parents at the school, I hope our collective contributions will help make our children’s experience at Bronx Science truly the best it can be.
Bella Wollan, Co-Recording Secretary
Hello! My name is Bella Wollan, a sophomore mom with a son, Jacob, in 10th grade at Bronx Science. With 15+ years in finance, strategy, and operations, I bring experience in budgeting, organization, and cross-functional collaboration. I currently serve as Co-Treasurer on the PA Executive Board.
Our experience at Bronx Science has been incredibly rewarding, and I’ve seen firsthand the strength and impact of this community. I’m deeply committed to continuing to support and contribute to the Bronx Science community. I would be honored to serve as Co-Secretary, bringing a detail-oriented and collaborative approach to the role. Thank you for your consideration!
Rocio Zumaya, Corresponding Secretary
My name is Rocio Zumaya, and I’m the proud mother of four daughters. My daughter Aneska is a ninth-grader at Bronx Science, and Ashley will join as a ninth-grader in fall 2026. I continue to support a parent group I started in 2013 with five parents, which has grown to over 700 families and professionals, where we provide resources and information to our community. This year, I served as PA president and a parent representative on the Board of Trustees at a NYC charter school. I’ve also served as a district parent leader, including on SLTs at several schools, as the D10 DPAC Title I alternate, and as a UFT parent committee member. I volunteer at my church pantry and with community organizations, and I collaborate with parent leaders across the city because I believe teamwork strengthens community advocacy. I’m also a parent member of the Bronx Developmental Disability Council and attend city and state meetings on education, health, and youth issues. I’m always looking for ways to support our school community, and I enjoy helping other parents and staying engaged at school. I would be honored to serve on the Bronx Science Parent Association Executive Board as Corresponding Secretary.
Vianney Mena, Co-Treasurer
I’m excited to run for Co-Treasurer. I’m a freshman parent and was proud to serve as a Member-at-Large this past year. I’ve supported PA events and organized the Bronx Science community Yankees outing.
Professionally, I am an oncology clinical research nurse, and feel that my organization and attention to detail make me well suited for the role of co-treasurer.
Tiffany Boydell, Co-Treasurer
Jennifer Wang, Assistant Treasurer
I’m Jennifer Wang, a parent of a current 9th-grader at Bronx Science, and I’m running for Assistant Treasurer. I previously served as Parent Association Co-Treasurer for two years during my daughter’s 7th and 8th grade years at Booker T. Washington, and before that I volunteered as treasurer for my residential co-op board for more than 10 years. Professionally, I have over 20 years of experience in the financial industry and currently work full time as a Senior Analytics Lead at a Fortune 100 company. I would be proud to support the Co-Treasurers and contribute to the Bronx Science community.
Julie Chin-Tom, Member-at-Large
I am Julie Chin-Tom, and I am running for a member-at-large position. My son, Cameron, is a junior.
Professionally, I am an accountant and I have also been an auditor in the past. For the past two years, I have had the privilege of serving as a Co-Treasurer on the PA and have volunteered for a range of school events. I am excited for the opportunity to continue supporting our students, school and build on the successes of the Executive Board these past two years.
Helen Goldman, Member-at-Large
I am excited to nominate myself for a Member at Large position on the PA Executive Board. As the parent of a rising senior, I am especially grateful for the opportunity to continue giving back to the Bronx Science community during my family’s final year at the school.
Over the past three years, I have had the privilege of serving on the PA Executive Board—first as a Member at Large, and for the past two years as Co-Vice President for Community Relations. In these roles, I have worked closely with fellow parent leaders, attended community meetings and events, strengthened relationships with district and citywide stakeholders, and supported initiatives that benefit Bronx Science families.
As a longtime Bronx resident and a professional in Human Resources, I bring strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to the role. I value teamwork, thoughtful decision-making, and building connections across our school community.
I am interested in serving as Member at Large because it offers the opportunity to continue supporting the Board wherever needed—through committees, projects, events, and parent engagement efforts. I would be honored to use my experience and knowledge to help ensure a successful year for our students, families, and school community.
Zainab Miller, Member-at-Large
My name is Zainab Miller, and I’m the parent of ninth-grader Peyton Miller. I’m grateful for the opportunity to run for Member-at-Large on the Bronx Science PA Executive Board. I believe in participation, collaboration, and building lasting support for our school community.
Professionally, I’m a landscape architect at a multidisciplinary engineering firm. That work reinforces my belief that strong outcomes come from seeing how people, systems, and priorities connect.
At my son’s K–8 school, I served as a PA committee chair, then PA Vice President, and later PA President. I also joined the Board of Trustees, ultimately serving on the Executive Committee and finishing my term as Vice Chair of the Board. Along the way, I contributed to long-range planning and to hiring committees for key school leadership roles.
In my Bronx community, I’m a member of the Rivers Run Community Garden, where I’ve donated my professional expertise to help design and lay out the space since its early days.
At Bronx Science, I’m a Co-Chair of this year’s Spring Gala. As a Member-at-Large, I would work to broaden opportunities for families to get involved and connect with one another, strengthening the partnership between home and school.
Candidates for the Parent Association Representative on the Schoool Leadership Team
as of April 28, 2026
Yohan Lim, PA Rep on the SLT
I have a 30-year career in education, serving as a teacher, instructional coach, budget manager, and administrator. My education includes a BFA from New York University (Tisch School of the Arts), an MA from Teachers College, Columbia University, and Ed.Leadership at Baruch College. My greatest accomplishments are being a dedicated father of three kind children, celebrating my pearl anniversary with my college sweetheart, and coaching Little League in Ridgewood, NJ, and youth football in Bayside, NY.
I look forward to serving on the SLT as a bridge between parents and the broader school community.
Rebeca Vargas, PA Rep on the SLT
Thank you to the Parents’ Association Nominations Committee for the opportunity to run for the School Leadership Team. I’m the parent of a Bronx Science 10th-grader and a school volunteer, and I’m eager to support our community by bringing my banking and nonprofit experience.
In education, I spent 10 years as CEO of two binational nonprofits advancing youth leadership and STEAM in underserved communities. I also founded Women Leaders in STEAM, a STEM mentoring program for girls in public high schools across Latin America.
As CMO of Girl Scouts of the USA, I led brand and marketing strategy to grow and retain membership and increase cookie sales, events, and sponsorships. I also helped expand the program portfolio to include STEM, financial education, mental health, environmental conservation, and body confidence.
Previously, I spent 20+ years at JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo in marketing, communications, strategy, and business development. I led multicultural marketing initiatives, expanded access (including alternative ID acceptance), launched new products, developed multilingual, culturally relevant communications, and partnered with community organizations to advance financial education.
I would be honored to bring my leadership experience and passion for education to the School Leadership Team at Bronx Science.
Julia Yan, PA Rep on the SLT
My name is Julia Yan and I’m a Science alumna (Class of ’96) and parent of a current 9th grader. I’m running for the School Leadership Team because I care deeply about our school community and want to help ensure Bronx Science continues to thrive through thoughtful planning, strong communication, and genuine collaboration.
As a Parent Coordinator for NYCPS, I work closely with families and school staff to build strong communication and trust. I’ve also served on SLTs at elementary and middle school levels, where I’ve helped develop the Comprehensive Educational Plan (CEP) and carefully considered how resources and priorities can best support student learning.
As a former PTA President and through my work in District 26, I’ve had the opportunity to hear a wide range of parent perspectives and help turn concerns into workable solutions. While my background in finance has helped strengthen my analytical approach, what I value most is listening, building trust, and ensuring families feel included.
Bronx Science played an important role in my own life, and it means a lot to me to stay connected as a parent. I’d be grateful for the chance to give back and support our school community in this role.
