Bronx High School of Science Parents' Assocation

Cafeteria renovations!

We are pleased to share that thanks to generous Reso-A grant funding, the Bronx Science cafeteria is being renovated! Due to a grant of $600,000 from Bronx Borough President Reuben Diaz, Jr. plus $600,000 in capital funding provided by Council Member Andrew Cohen and the City Council, work began in June to renovate the cafeteria ceiling and remove asbestos. Additional support has been graciously provided from the Bronx Science Alumni Foundation, and from the Bronx Science Parents’ Association.

As you can see in this picture, the ceilings are now over 18 inches higher, adding an airiness to the room.  Ceiling ductwork will soon be painted and new lighting will be installed (currently temporary lights are in place). Updates to the electrical system and air conditioning will complete this phase of the work. A big thank you to current parent and architect of record on the project, Anthony Johnson, for his dedication to this effort.

We will be applying for additional funds to hopefully complete the next phase of the project, which would include a new floor, paint and new furniture. As we all know, the Bronx Science cafeteria is for eating, club meetings, socializing, brainstorming and so much more. The Bronx Science Parent Association is grateful to the Bronx Borough President and to Council Member Cohen and the City Council for recognizing the needs of our students and supporting our school by providing these much needed funds.
