Bronx High School of Science Parents' Assocation

Parent Spotlight: Katie Sperling

Welcome to the first Parent Spotlight of this school year. Every year, many Bronx Science parents volunteer their time and talent to help our school. Today, we’d like you to learn about Katie Sperling, parent of a BxSci sophomore.

Katie lives in downtown Manhattan with her husband, and her daughter; Katie’s son is a sophomore in college. Katie co-founded, and works with, the grassroots Parents’ Alliance for Citywide Education, advocating for increased access to accelerated schools and programs for K-8 students across NYC, especially in the Bronx.

Last school year, Katie helped out at the Bronx Science College Rep and Senior Awards dinners, and worked behind the scenes on our online auction. This year, Katie is co-chair of our Auction Committee, and serves on the PA Executive Board as Corresponding Secretary. Have you recently used Sign Up Genius to volunteer for an event? We have Katie to thank for recruiting, and organizing our volunteers.

Here is what Katie has to say about using her time to help Bronx Science: “Volunteering at Bronx Science is an incredibly rewarding experience. I never feel like I am taking on a task all by myself. Bronx Science parents make up the ideal volunteer community; they are enthusiastic, efficient, ready-to-go problem solvers.”

You can join Katie working on this year’s auction by emailing here. Or, if you would like to volunteer in another capacity, please fill out our volunteer form here. Volunteer opportunities abound throughout the school year, some for events at school, and many for behind the scenes ways to help us away from school. Volunteering gives you the opportunity to meet new people, have some fun, and develop an even greater appreciation for our wonderful school.
