Dear Fellow Bronx Science Parents and Guardians,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at Wednesday’s Parents’ Association meeting. We were honored to welcome Superintendent Fia Davis who spoke about Districts 8, 10 and 11, of which we are a member, her goals and vision for the districts and for Bronx Science. It was both an informative and energizing presentation!

We would also like to express our gratitude to AP of Guidance, Andrew Nasser and student panel members, Severjean Azirov ’26, Liv Basche ’27, Jadyn Sinclair ’25 and Vicky Wang ’24, who engaged in an enlightening panel discussion about the topic “How to Have Difficult Conversations with Teens.” We appreciate our parents/guardians’ participation and thank them for submitting questions for the panel. We also appreciate our students for their thoughtful and illuminating responses to the questions posed.

At the same meeting, we also voted on our bylaw changes, and took nominations for the PA Executive Board (EB) and the School Leadership Team (SLT) from the floor. We appreciate everyone’s enthusiastic participation in our election process and are grateful to all of our parents/guardians who have submitted their names as candidates. Your willingness to service the school community is wonderful. Elections will be held at the May 15, 2024, PA meeting, which will be held virtually. The link for our election meeting will be shared after spring break.

On Tuesday night, Bronx Science seniors were inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) which was followed by a PA-sponsored dinner in their honor. Newly inducted NHS members and their families were treated to a delicious meal provided by our Hospitality Committee, for which we are very grateful.

Special thanks to Hospitality Committee Co-Chairs Lilach Bar and Kotsaku Shinoda and to Hospitality team members Karah Rempe and Luisa LaFleur for their roles in planning and hosting the dinner. We congratulate all the new inductees! Additional thanks and photos from the NHS event can be found below.

We continue to seek more volunteers to help with the College Fair on Wednesday, May 1, which is the day we return from Spring Break! This is an exciting opportunity for our 10th and 11th graders, and BxSci hospitality always shines brightly at this event. Please sign up here to help to set up dinner for the college reps, serve and clean up.

Batter up! Grab your tickets for a Night Out at Yankee Stadium on Friday, May 17 at 7:05 PM. Join BxSci families, teachers, staff, and friends for a fun and relaxed evening while we cheer on the Yankees! Purchase discounted tickets here, which includes a $15 voucher for food or beverage at the game. Ticket sales end on May 9 at 11:59 PM. Please note this is a community event, not a fundraiser.

We hope that everyone has a fun and restful spring break.

See you in May!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Allen-Cheng, Elizabeth Polkovitz and Christine Kattan
