December 3, 2023
Dear Fellow Bronx Science Parents and Guardians,
We hope you all had a peaceful and joyous Thanksgiving holiday!
Before the break, we were delighted to provide refreshments for the November Coffee With the Principal. Principal Rachel Hoyle welcomed our Assistant Principal of Pupil Personnel Services, Andrew Nasser, and a wonderful panel of students. Mr. Nasser and the students spoke about the Guidance Department services available and gave an overview of how Guidance works with students throughout their time at Bronx Science. After the presentation, Rebecca Barreras led attendees down to the Holocaust Museum, where they were treated to a guided tour by student ambassadors. Thank you to all the student volunteers, to our Hospitality team led by Lilach Bar, and to volunteer Susan Silberman for helping to set up. See Photos of the event here!
Did you miss the coffee? Did you think of a question you forgot to ask? Then you are in luck, because Andrew Nasser and our student volunteers will be reprising this panel at our next PA meeting, in person, on Wednesday, December 13. Our extended holiday gathering starts with a get-together and merchandise sale at 6 PM, which will give us all an opportunity to see each other face to face and to stock up on Bronx Science merch, just in time for the holidays! Please RSVP here so we can get a headcount for refreshments. We need both merchandise and hospitality volunteers for this event! Please sign up to volunteer here. Then, at 7 PM, we’ll have the business portion of our meeting, followed by our guidance panel. Please find the meeting agenda here. While we will have a Zoom link available for this meeting in next week’s e-newsletter, we strongly encourage your in-person presence. Not only are panels better in person, but we can’t feed you over Zoom!
UPDATE AS OF 12/5: DUE TO STAFFING ISSUES, THE DECEMBER 13 PA MEETING WILL NOT HAVE A REMOTE OPTION. PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE PANEL AND PARTY IN PERSON.
Important: Please note that to continue to provide a Zoom option for our hybrid meetings, we must expand our in-person tech team. Please see the here for more information, and if you are interested in joining our team, please plan to come to the December meeting in person so that you can learn what is involved.
Our Annual Appeal campaign is in full swing! Direct giving makes up 70-80 percent of our budget and is money that goes to support our school and our kids in both academic and extracurricular endeavors. One area of support is our Theatre Production fund, which is helping support this week’s production of Puffs. Performances of this Harry Potter universe inspired play are on December 6 and 7. More details can be found here. Come support our kids and see how your dollars enhance the experiences of so many via their extracurricular activities. Then, we hope you will donate at this link. We are only just over one third of the way to our goal, so we are grateful for any amount that is meaningful to you. We remind you that donations must be made by December 31 to be tax-deductible for 2023.
Finally, we invite you to join Superintendent Fia Davis for her quarterly State of the District Town Hall, to be held remotely on December 14 at 6 PM. Please see the post for more information and the link. Our presence and engagement at these district-wide events is important to our school, is noticed by the district, and is appreciated by all.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Polkovitz, Jennifer Allen-Cheng, and Christine Kattan
