Dear Fellow Bronx Science Parents and Guardians,

As we wind down the whirlwind of March and head into April, we thank those parents who have been helping our school show our best selves to the city and to our community.

First, we’d like to thank those of you who took the time to log in to the Virtual State of the District Town Hall with our superintendent, Fia Davis, on March 30, and those of you who took the time to fill out the NYC School Survey, originally due on March 31. Demonstrating our engagement matters, helping us stand out as a model for “what’s working” within New York City public schools. Even more importantly, the survey gives our school leadership crucial information as they strive to continually improve the Bronx Science experience. If you missed the survey deadline, we are pleased to share that the deadline has been extended to April 20. Please use this link to share your anonymous feedback.

We are also pleased to announce that we have candidates for nearly every position on the PA Executive Board for next year. The Nominating Committee is still actively seeking more candidates for Member at Large seats. More critically, we need nominations for parents to serve on the School Leadership Team (SLT). We have three (3) seats on this critical team which must be filled by parents. The SLT uses the responses from the School Survey and data from previous years to identify areas in need of improvement, set academic and school climate goals, and draft a Comprehensive Education Plan and budget in service of those goals. See our Election post for more information, and reach out to nominations@bxsciencepa.org to nominate yourself or someone else. Nominations will be accepted until April 21, at 11:59 PM for our election on May 17, at 7 PM, to be held remotely.

We’ve been delighted by the response to our call for volunteers for the National Honor Society Dinner (April 25) and for the College Fair Dinner (April 26), as well as for the various committee leadership positions we have been able to fill over the past few weeks. We still have some volunteer slots to fill for the NHS dinner and will be adding more and varied opportunities to help in the coming weeks. Please see the Committees post below for more updates.

Don’t forget to buy your tickets for our Spring Gala on May 11 from 6-9 PM! Early bird sales have been robust, and there are only a few more tickets available at the early bird price. Don’t miss your chance to kick up your heels and celebrate the year with your fellow parents and to bid live on the amazing experiences that our Auction team has been working to put together. If you have a donation for the auction but have been procrastinating, now is the time to get that item donated! The deadline for item donations is April 4. See the Gala posts below for more information.

Then, on May 25, at 7:05 PM, join us for A Night Out at Yankee Stadium to cheer on the Bronx Bombers as they take on the Baltimore Orioles. This annual spring tradition is a great way to meet other Bronx Science families and enjoy each other’s company while celebrating the Bronx. You can buy your tickets here.

Our next meeting will be in person at Bronx Science on April 19, at 7 PM. We are pleased to host Adam Ingersoll from Compass Education, who will be sharing What You Should Know About College Admissions. As this year’s senior families can attest, it’s a rapidly shifting landscape in admissions right now, and our guest is an expert at calmly guiding families through the types of decisions they will need to make. We’ll also have updates from the SLT, our nominating committee, and our other critical teams. A link for a remote option will be in the April 16 newsletter.

We’ll be taking Spring Break off, and we hope you and your families have a wonderful break. For those who celebrate, Ramadan Mubarak! Happy Bengali New Year! Pesach Sameach! Happy Easter! Our next newsletter will be on April 16, and we hope to see you on April 19 at Bronx Science.

Sincerely,

Christine Kattan, Jayesh Patel and Elizabeth Polkovitz
