March 12, 2023
Dear Fellow Bronx Science Parents and Guardians,
Spring is near, high school acceptances are out, and the PA is gearing up for a busy stretch! In addition to our regularly scheduled PA meetings, we have several important events from now through June. Bronx Science has proven our strength and resiliency as we’ve rebuilt our community involvement to staff in-person events. THANK YOU to those who have helped us; we will continue to rely on your dedication to volunteer for what is shaping up to be a fun and eventful Spring PA calendar. Did we mention there are also social outings in the works, which will give us a chance to just kick back, relax and connect? Stay tuned for more information on those as well.
For starters, please join us this Wednesday, March 15, at 7 PM for our next PA meeting! We are delighted to welcome a Bronx Science student panel, moderated by AP Andrew Nasser, to discuss How to Have Difficult Conversations with Teens. We appreciate the time these students have taken to share their perspective around this sensitive topic. We encourage you to submit your questions for the panel ahead of the meeting here. This is a virtual-only meeting and will not be recorded.
During this meeting, the Gala Committee will also be drawing the Winter Raffle for a MacBook Pro13” laptop! Tickets are sold out. Good luck to all our ticket holders! The winner need not be present.
Please find the Zoom link for this meeting here. Minutes from our February meeting will be voted on and can be found here.
The following Monday, March 20th is our Accepted Students Open House! The school will be buzzing with excitement from newly accepted students and their families, along with our own BxSci students who work hard to prepare for these marquee events. We appreciate that so many of our parents and guardians have already heeded the call for help! There are still a number of volunteer spots open, so if you can make it on March 20th, we encourage you to join us. Sign up for this eventhere.
Please GET READY and mark your calendars now…
Closing out March, Superintendent Fia Davis invites all BxSci families to the Virtual State of the District meeting on March 30. It is important that Bronx Science demonstrates the depth of our community’s engagement in our district, so we highly encourage attendance from as many families as possible. Please see the State of the District post below for details.
As we look ahead to April, in addition to a hybrid PA meeting (April 19) where we will welcome a guest speaker from Compass Education to discuss What You Should Know About College Admissions, the PA will be assisting with the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony and Dinner (April 25) along with the College Fair (April 26). We will be making a call for volunteers soon.
Since it is never too early to plan, we also want to highlight important dates in May! The highlight that month is the Spring Gala (May 11). This is our second-largest fundraiser of the year, and our Spring Gala committee is counting on our community to help make this event a success. From donations (such as experiences, gift cards or cash) and sponsorships, to bottles of wine, the current focus is all about helping secure items for the big night! And when the time comes, make sure to buy your ticket(s) to attend. See below for more details in the Spring Gala posts below.
The month of May also brings our PA and SLT elections! Please see the Election post below for more information on how you can run for a position to join our Executive Board or School Leadership Team. We look forward to hearing from you!
For a night of pure fun, we welcome all Bronx Science families, friends, and staff to join us for a Night Out at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, May 23 at 7:05 PM, to watch the Yankees play against the Baltimore Orioles. Stay tuned for information on ticket sales.
In the meantime, please join us for the final Wellness Walk (today) and kindly remember to fill out your NYC School Survey, which is due March 31 (see NYC School Survey post below).
We look forward to seeing you at the PA meeting this Wednesday!
Sincerely,
Christine Kattan, Jayesh Patel and Elizabeth Polkovitz
