Dear Fellow Bronx Science Parents and Guardians,

We were delighted to see those of you who were able to attend last week’s PA meeting in person, and hope more of our community will join us at future meetings and events. Community building and idea generation thrive when we are together, so thanks to those who attended.

Congratulations to our newly elected Nominating Committee, Allison Rogovin, Elaine Cipriano, Ellen Goldberg, Jodi Solomon and Lucy Yang. The Nominating Committee plays a vital role in our elections, and we are grateful for their commitment. BxSci PA Executive Board and School Leadership (SLT) elections will be held this May, so please stay tuned for more information from our Nominating Committee.

The PA thanks Assistant Principals Andrew Nasser and Dr. Allison Davis for their presentation during the meeting. Their guidance on navigating both the course selection process and research program was tremendously useful. If you missed this important presentation, you can find it here. Please see Coffee With The Principal below for details on another opportunity to see this presentation in person.

The PA also recognizes the continued contributions of our parent and guardian volunteers who make our PA meetings and other events possible. A big thank you to Bryan Liff for technology assistance, and Kosaku Shinoda for arranging a coffee and snack bar for our in-person attendees.

Upcoming Events

Coffee with the Principal. Assistant Principals Andrew Nasser and Dr. Allison Davis will return to outline the spring course selection process for our 9th-11th grade families and share information on the research program track. This event will be held on Thursday, March 2nd from 8:30-10:00 AM, in person at the school. It will not be recorded.

Following the presentation, AP David Colchamiro will host a tour of the school’s Holocaust Museum for interested parents. This was a rewarding and educational experience for parents and guardians after the last Coffee with The Principal, and we thank AP Colchamiro for arranging another tour.

Please RSVP for this event here by Monday, February 27th at 9:00 AM.

Wellness Walks. Midwinter break may mean school is closed, but our UWS Wellness Walks are still on! For those interested, this is an opportunity to get some fresh air, exercise and connect with other BxSci parents and guardians. Please see the Wellness Walks post below for more information.

Next PA Meeting. Please mark your calendars for our next PA meeting on Wednesday, March 15th at 7:00 PM. We warmly welcome back AP Andrew Nasser who will be moderating a student panel on the topic “How to Have Difficult Conversations with Teens”. Details to attend this remote-only meeting will be provided in the March 12th e-newsletter.

The Gala Committee will also be holding a Winter Raffle! Buy your ticket(s) here for a chance to win a MacBook Pro13” laptop! Drawing to be held during the March 15th PA meeting. Participants need not be present to win, but we hope you join the meeting to tune into the informative panel.

Accepted Student Open House. Do you remember the excitement when your 8th grader was admitted to Bronx Science? Come and relive the experience on Monday, March 20th, as the school hosts accepted 8th grade students for an Open House. We’ll need many parent and guardian volunteers to help welcome guests and answer questions prospective parents may have, to help sell Bronx Science merchandise (it’s an eager crowd) and to feed our student volunteers. Please save the date and note that volunteer shifts will be between 3:30-8:00 PM. Volunteer signup will be included in the March 5th e-newsletter.

This will be our final e-newsletter until after the midwinter recess, so we wish you all a wonderful break. We hope to see many of you at the Coffee with The Principal on March 2nd and look for our next e-newsletter on March 5th.

Sincerely,

Christine Kattan, Jayesh Patel and Elizabeth Polkovitz
