Bronx High School of Science Parents' Assocation

Message from Our Co-Presidents – June 24, 2018

Dear Bronx Science parents,

This week was an emotional one for both of us. On Thursday, our sons (along with the 715 other members of the Bronx Science Class of 2018) graduated from a high school that has given them a world-class education, wonderful friends, and memories for a lifetime. We feel proud, relieved, thankful, and excited for our children’s next adventures – and we feel lucky to have been part of the Bronx Science community for the past four years.

Our involvement in the PA this year has been especially gratifying. The generosity and support of Bronx Science parents helped make many things happen: our school now has a speedy and reliable Internet connection and wi-fi; after-school clubs and activities have access to new funding; we’ve increased the budget allotted to academic departments’ requests; and Senior Prom became more affordable for all seniors. We’re also glad to have met many of you at PA events: our monthly PA meetings were well-attended (three of those meetings had 200+ attendees), and this year’s very successful offsite events in Manhattan and Queens could provide a template for future PA gatherings. Perhaps most importantly, this year we formed stronger links between the school’s student leaders and the PA executive board, so that students’ voices and perspectives could better inform the board’s decisions and priorities.

We’re leaving the PA in excellent hands. The 2018-19 PA will be led by two devoted, thoughtful, smart, and immensely likable women: Rebecca Barreras and Lisa Brody. Both moms of rising sophomores, Lisa and Rebecca were on the executive board this year and have shown themselves to be effective leaders and fantastic team players.

It’s been an honor to serve as your PA co-presidents. We wish you and your families a terrific summer, and all the best in the years ahead!

Thank you and goodbye,

Elizabeth and Monica
