Each school year, many BxSci parents volunteer their time and talent to help our school. A few weeks ago, we featured Lise Aug in our first parent spotlight. Today we’d like you to learn more about another parent who does an important job for the BxSci PA.
Lidija Markes is the very talented webmaster of our PA website, bxsciencepa.org. Lidija (pronounced just like “Lydia”) makes updates to the site at least once a week. She’s already introduced some fantastic new features — such as a photo gallery and special sections for Chinese and Bengali content — and she’s made some back-end changes that have improved the site’s loading speed and performance. Lidija is by now an expert on PA websites, since she also created and maintained the PTA sites for her daughter’s elementary and middle schools.
Lidija is a Queens mother of a freshman daughter. Here’s what she has to say about volunteering at Bronx Science:
“I love contributing to the amazing work the Parents’ Association does here at Bronx Science. After nine great years in local neighborhood schools in Queens, I wasn’t sure I would be able to stay involved as a parent. Because I know how valuable the website is for parents like me who can’t always make it to school for meetings, it was a very easy decision to make. Bronx Science has an enthusiastic, dedicated parent community and that was one of my favorite things about the school from the start.”
Thank you, Lidija, for helping to keep BxSci parents well-informed!
If you, too, would like to volunteer in some capacity, please fill out this online form. Volunteer opportunities abound throughout the year, and not all of them require you to travel to the Bronx. By volunteering, you’ll meet new people, have some fun, and develop an even greater appreciation for how wonderful our school is.
