Bronx High School of Science Parents' Assocation

Welcome Message from our Co-Presidents – May 3rd, 2015

May 3, 2015

Dear Bronx Science Families,

This past week was a whirlwind of activity for both parents and children. We had a SLT meeting on Tuesday, the College Fair for juniors and sophomores on Wednesday, and the highly entertaining and successful Auction Gala on Thursday. Throw in the DOE Quality Review on Friday and I think we all need a little breather!

While our children prepare for AP exams over the next two weeks, as parents we can rest up for a bit. The May PA General Meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 19th at 7 pm. We will take care of some significant PA business prior to the “State of the School” presentation from our administration and APs. The last two PA meetings are important so please make plans to join us for both.

On Sunday, May 17th, the Bronx Week Parade kicks off at 11:30 am. See the dedicated box below for all the information you need to participate. Let’s get out and show Bronx Science spirit for the whole borough to see!!

SHSAT News: Last Tuesday, the Espaillat bill was held without a motion today, so they did not pass the bill at this time. Senators Stavisky and Avella spoke against the bill. Here’s a video of Tuesday’s proceedings, starting at 1:40 Senate Standing Committee On Education. Senator Espaillat has stated he intends to reintroduce his bill as amended at some future date, so the fight is not over, but rest assured we will remain vigilant in our defense of the current system.

Last, but certainly not least, we want to thank the many volunteers who turned out last week to help us with the College Fair and the Auction Gala. Your participation is much needed and so greatly appreciated. Also, thanks to parents who made up the panel for this past Friday’s DOE Quality Review: Ellen Dubin, Claire Bienen, Eugenia Zakharov, Pam Godwin, Edan Segal, and Michler Bishop. Thanks to all.
