Bronx High School of Science Parents' Assocation

Welcome Message from our Co-Presidents – April 27th, 2015

April 27th, 2015

Dear Bronx Science Families,

Today is the last day to bid on our 2015 Online Auction. The bidding closes at 10:00 pm tonight. You’ll find many wonderful items at fabulous prices, plus a preview of our Live Auction items to be offered at our Dinner and Auction on Thursday, the 30th. We hope you come out and support us. It promises to be an incredibly fun evening, with lots of wonderful items to bid on, and great food to enjoy. Hope to see many of you on Thursday evening!

We’re all set to start a busy week for parents and students, as we move toward May Day on Friday.

The SLT will have their monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 28th at 3:45 pm in the Principal’s office. Parents and caregivers are invited to attend.

Wednesday, April 29th is the College Fair, from 7pm to 9pm. It’s an especially big night for Juniors and their parents as approximately 200 college admissions personnel will be on hand to answer your questions about their respective colleges and/or universities. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn as you start your college admissions journey. Sophomore parents and students are also invited to attend. Free Vallo transportation is provided, please visit our transportation page for more details.

SHSAT News: Thursday afternoon, the Espaillat bill was put on the April 28th meeting Agenda of the NY Senate Education Committee. The Espaillat bill, as recently amended, would repeal the Hecht-Calandra Act to give the DOE/Mayor full discretion to use multiple measures of merit for admission, including middle school grades, teacher recommendations and student portfolios. You may click on the following links to view the bill, the agenda, and the members of the Senate Education Committee. The PA remains firmly opposed to any changes to the current system that exists, view our position here. Please lend your voice by contacting members of the committee, especially those who represent your district.

As the days grow longer and the temperatures rise, it’s a wonderful time for us as parents to enjoy all that Bronx Science has to offer. We hope to see you at all of our upcoming events.
