As we step into June, we are thrilled to celebrate Pride Month! This is a time to honor the vibrant history, diversity, and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community. At Bronx Science, we recognize that authenticity and inclusivity are our greatest strengths. This month, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a welcoming space where everyone feels seen, valued, and empowered to be exactly who they are. Let’s celebrate love, visibility, and progress together!
Our school has a proud history of alumni who have been pioneering forces in literature, political science, and the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement:
- Murray Edelman (’57): A pioneering political scientist and early gay liberation activist, he used data and polling to ensure the LGBTQ+ community’s voice was formally recognized in American politics.
- Martha Shelley (’60): A monumental activist, writer, and poet, she was a core co-founder of the Gay Liberation Front and helped organize some of the very first protest marches following the Stonewall Riots.
- Samuel Delany (’60): A highly celebrated, award-winning author and academic, he broke barriers as an openly gay Black writer whose groundbreaking work radically expanded the boundaries of speculative fiction.
