Dear Fellow Bronx Science Parents and Guardians,
Now that school has been open for over a 
full week, we hope that our students, staff and families are settling in; it certainly seems that everyone has gotten into the school groove quite quickly!
Despite the rain, we had a wonderful turnout at our first in person parent/guardian event held this past Saturday at Ellington in the Park. It was terrific to meet so many of our new families and to hear from them and their children about how the first two days of school went. We also received a lot of positive feedback about how warm and welcoming everyone has been. Bronx Science is an amazing community and we are thrilled that our new families are already experiencing this! See below for photos from this event!
Bronx Science held an Incoming Parent Orientation on Wednesday night and the PA
and its volunteer team sold merchandise and hosted a reception for our new parents/guardians. It was a great turnout and a lovely event, and we are very grateful to everyone who supported it. We really enjoyed meeting so many of our new families and extending a warm welcome to them! Photos from the event can be found below along with our special thanks!
It is a privilege for the PA to support so many fantastic events and activities. Most of them depend on volunteers and we appreciate any time that parents/guardians can spare to assist us. In addition to supporting our students and staff, volunteering is a great way to get to know other families and it’s fun! We will continue to share volunteer opportunities in our weekly newsletter, and you can also find this information under the volunteer tab on the PA web page.
Please note the following upcoming events, volunteer needs and meetings:
Wednesday, Sept 20, 7 PM: Our first PA meeting will be held in person at Bronx Science. During our PA business, we will approve amendments to the 2023-24 PA budget and the June 2023 meeting minutes. Minutes can be found here.
Following introductions and regular business, we will break out into meaningful sessions covering topics of importance by grade. Please note that the PA has diligently worked to improve the quality of our hybrid meetings over this past year. However, this meeting will be the first hybrid meeting with multiple breakout rooms. If this meeting is a top priority, we highly encourage in-person attendance in the event of technical difficulties. For those not able to attend in person, a link to a remote option can be found here. PA meetings will not be recorded, with the exception of elections.
Saturday, Sept 23: The PA is also in need of volunteers for Project Accepted, one of the most valuable programs offered to our seniors. Sponsored by the Bronx Science Foundation, Project Accepted is a half day event where alumni help our seniors prepare for interviews, provide strategies for applying to college and more!
It’s one of many unique opportunities our children have as Bronx Science students, and the PA is grateful for the tremendous support of our alumni. To do our part, we are seeking MANY volunteers to help feed our dedicated alumni interviewers and participating seniors, and to help sell merchandise! For event time and to sign up, click here.
Upcoming Election
The PA will be holding a fall election in October, which is an opportunity for 9th and new incoming 10th grade parents and guardians to run for reserved positions on the PA Executive Board and the School Leadership Team (SLT). Please see the Election post for a message from our Nominating Committee, which includes open positions, nomination deadlines and additional important details.
We look forward to meeting many of you in person at our first PA meeting this Wednesday (9/20/2023) and hope to see you at our other functions. Please let us know if you have any questions.
