A busy December continues on its merry way. On Tuesday, December 9th is the Senior Research Students Dinner at 5:30 PM in the cafeteria. Congratulations to all who have worked so hard on their various projects. The Winter Concert is on Wednesday, December 10th and Thursday, December 11th. Check the Bronx Science website for show times. Come out and support the students who have worked so hard over the last few weeks!!
Our next PA meeting will be on Wednesday, December 10th from 7 PM to 9 PM. Our topic is “Parenting in the Digital Age”, featuring Linnette Attai of PlayWell and Jamie Propp of TechDad. IMPORTANT SHSAT NEWS: Many of you are familiar with the City Council’s attempt to change the criteria of the SHSAT test, which determines admission to the Specialized High Schools. The time for us to be heard is this week and now is the time to act. The Education Committee of the City Council is scheduled to address the issue at their meeting this Thursday, December 11th at 10 AM in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Public testimony is estimated to begin sometime after 1pm. There will be a Press Conference by those of us who oppose any changes to the SHSAT at 10 AM on the City Hall steps. Your support is surely needed as we strive to maintain the academic integrity of our schools. On the right side of the PA website under “December 11, 2014 City Council Education Committee Meeting” you can access three important documents which will provide you with more detailed information. They are the official Hearing Notice from the City Council, Resolution 442 which we oppose, and a City Council flyer prepared and approved by the PAs of all the specialized high schools. It’s time to be informed and to make your voice heard. Join us on Thursday. If you are unable to attend the hearing and wish to submit written testimony, please email your testimony to jatwell@council.nyc.gov.
