April 23, 2023
Dear Fellow Bronx Science Parents and Guardians,
Thank you to everyone who joined our April PA meeting, which featured a special presentation by Adam Ingersoll from Compass Education. We appreciate Adam’s thoughtful and pragmatic insight regarding college admissions testing. As promised, please find numerous resources provided by Compass Education here. The PA will continue to deliver speakers to discuss topics of interest and improve the audio quality of our hybrid meetings. We are fortunate to have experts visit our community to engage with us and answer our questions. Many of these speakers have expressed a preference for in-person dialogue around these important topics, and we would be thrilled to see more of you at these in-person meetings. Not only does in-person attendance improve the dialogue, but such connection breathes life into our community. The PA seeks to build a strong network to support our students and the next generation of BxSci families.
Please save the date for our next PA meeting on Wednesday, May 17 at 7 PM. This meeting will be remote-only to accommodate our spring election. The nomination process for the spring election is now closed. We thank all parents who have stepped forward to serve our community and will share the candidate bios in next week’s newsletter. During this meeting, we will present 2023-24’s preliminary PA budget, and will be joined by Principal Hoyle and AP Andrew Nasser, who will present the State of the School report.
Although the next PA meeting is virtual, we have a number of in-person events happening this spring and more chances for you to meet your fellow BxSci community members. Please see below for more details.
But first, a special invitation to our Black and Latinx students and their parents, with an immediate deadline (tomorrow!). Stuyvesant High School cordially invites these students and their parents to attend a Youth Summit on Saturday, April 29, 2023, from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM at Stuyvesant High School. Meet other students from Stuyvesant and Brooklyn Tech, share your experiences, and gain empowerment tools to improve your social, emotional, and academic experiences. Lunch will be provided, and parent workshops will be available in English and Spanish. Please RSVP here by Monday April 24 (tomorrow)! See the Youth Summit post below for more information. We thank the Stuyvesant community for including our families in this amazing opportunity!
Now back to Bronx Science events…
To start, we are gearing up for the annual Spring Gala, which is less than 3 weeks away on May 11th! Individual tickets to the gala are sold out, BUT there are still several VIP packages left. If you are not able to attend the in-person event, you can still show your support by bidding in the online auction, open now!
Mark your calendars for this year’s final Coffee with the Principal on Tuesday, May 23 from 8:30-9:30 AM, in person, at the school. This is another chance to hear Principal Hoyle’s and AP Nasser’s State of the School report, and chat with our school administration. This meeting will not be recorded.
Following the presentation, Eleanor Coufos, President of the Alumni Foundation, will host a tour of the new Manne Research Institute for interested parents and guardians. Don’t miss out on this unique and rare opportunity to check out Bronx Science’s impressive, state-of-the-art research facility.
Please RSVP HERE for the Coffee with the Principal by Tuesday, May 16 at 9:00 AM.
Next, don’t miss out on your chance to attend the annual Night Out at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, May 25 at 7:05 PM. Whether you love the Yankees, the Bronx, Bronx Science, or all the above, this is a great event for Bronx Science families, friends, and staff to just kick back and have fun! Discounted tickets (all in Section 234) can be purchased here.
Before you close your spring social calendar, we welcome all Bronx Science families to an end-of-year outdoor social at Ellington in the Park (lower level); W. 105th St in Riverside Park, Manhattan on Saturday, June 10 from 4:30 to 7:00 PM. We hope you all can join us at this event to celebrate the school year, as well as a chance to convey our best wishes to our senior families.
But we’re not there yet. We still have work to do! Next week, we will see those of you who are helping out at two exciting events for our students: the College Fair and the National Honor Society dinner!
We hope to see the rest of you sooner than later.
Sincerely,
Christine Kattan, Jayesh Patel and Elizabeth Polkovitz
