Dear Fellow Bronx Science Parents and Guardians,

Last week, the school held its second Coffee with the Principal of the year, which featured guest speaker Eleanor Coufos (Class of ‘99), Bronx Science Alumni Foundation President. Eleanor shared her knowledge of Bronx Science and highlighted the different summer opportunities supported by the Alumni Foundation. It was an informative and engaging presentation which was thoroughly enjoyed by our audience! As a bonus, parents and guardians were also treated to a fascinating history of the Bronx High School of Science Holocaust Museum’s development, followed by a guided museum tour from Bronx Science students. The PA thanks Eleanor for her insight and time, and AP David Colchamiro for organizing the museum tour. We also want to thank Principal Rachel Hoyle for creating these remarkable in-person opportunities which gives our parent and guardian community a chance to connect with our administration, staff and the numerous individuals who keep Bronx Science thriving. Finally, we want to thank our parent and guardian volunteers who ran the hospitality portion of this meeting (see In The Spotlight post). These efforts add a special touch to our events and showcase the importance of our hospitality team.

Now onto the main PA event this week – the in-person PA meeting / holiday gathering this Tuesday, December 13 with festivities and meeting starting at 6 PM and 7 PM, respectively. This is a night you won’t want to miss! Our in-person meetings are a vital part of our mission to build a robust Bronx Science community, so we hope that you will make every effort to join us.

Did you miss out on Eleanor’s discussion at the Coffee with the Principal? Well, you have a second chance to hear from her this month! For our December PA meeting, we welcome her back as our guest speaker. Eleanor always has valuable information to share. We invite you to come and grab a bite to eat, do some Bronx Science swag shopping and be a part of an educational and engaging discussion on how our students can make the most of their summer. All while enjoying some holiday cheer!

A few reminders on how you can help:

  • It’s not too late to RSVP for the December 13 PA meeting by emailing president@bxsciencepa.org. Although not required, it is incredibly helpful for planning purposes.
  • Please consider signing up here to help with setup/cleanup, merchandise sales and vaccination checks. The PA cannot run these events without our community volunteers.

Please note per Department of Education mandate, school visitors need to present photo identification and proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

For those of you unable to join in person, we welcome you to join us remotely. Please find the Zoom link here. The General PA meeting will begin at 7:00 PM.

Minutes from our November meeting will be voted on during this meeting and can be found here.

We also have a little more holiday cheer to spread! Thanks to generous donors, the Bronx Science Parents’ Association is pleased to announce an opportunity for our families to enjoy a free performance by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 7:30 PM at the Prudential Center. Tickets are limited and are on a first come, first served basis. If interested, please email president@bxsciencepa.org with “Free Tickets” in the subject line.

We know that the weeks before the holiday break are hectic, but we hope you take the opportunity to join us for what promises to be a fun-filled, informative evening. We look forward to seeing many of you in person this Tuesday!

Sincerely,

Christine Kattan, Jayesh Patel and Elizabeth Polkovitz
