Dear Fellow Parents and Guardians:

The Bronx High School of Science Parents’ Association is pleased to announce an opportunity for all of our families to enjoy a special opening-weekend screening of Try Harder! at the Regal Union Square this weekend, December 3rd through 5th.

Excerpted from the film’s promotional material: This acclaimed documentary follows seniors at top-rated Lowell High School in San Francisco as they navigate the rigorous higher ed admissions process. The students are keenly aware of the intense competition for the few open spots in their dream colleges.

Sound familiar?

At Lowell—where cool kids are nerds, nearly everyone has an amazing talent, and most of the student body is Asian American—the things that usually make a person stand out can feel commonplace. With humor and heart, director Debbie Lum captures the reality of the American college application process and the intersection of class, race, and educational opportunity as young adults navigate a quintessential rite of passage.

This is not a free event. Tickets may be purchased here.

We would like to draw particular attention to this Saturday evening’s screening, which features a Q&A with Min Jin Lee (BxSci Class of ’86), the international best-selling author of Free Food for Millionaires and
Pachinko.

Cheers,
