One of the many fun traditions at Bronx Science is the junior prom, and it cannot happen without parent chaperones. If your 11th grader is planning to attend the prom, please consider helping out as a chaperone. Approximately 300 students are expected to attend, and 10 to 15 parent chaperones are needed.
The junior prom will be held on Saturday, May 19, from 7-11pm at Mailroom NYC, a chic arcade/lounge in lower Manhattan’s Financial District. There will be a buffet dinner, a theme selected by the Junior Prom Committee, and a professional DJ and photographer.
The NYC DOE guidelines state that in order to be a chaperone, your child must be attending the prom. You must chaperone either by yourself or with your child’s other legal parent/guardian (i.e., your boyfriend or girlfriend cannot attend). Each chaperone will be assigned “stations” to monitor throughout the prom. If you are available and interested in chaperoning, please sign up by emailing Ms. Kristen Parness (parness@bxscience.edu), who is the Coordinator of Student Affairs at Bronx Science.
Please sign up only if you are sure that you will be available the entire evening. The DOE requires a certain adult-to-student ratio, so if you drop out at the last minute, it could compromise the prom. Thanks in advance!
