Dear Fellow Bronx Science Parents and Guardians,

It was a short academic week with midyear exams. We hope that your students had a successful midyear week, and that you are ready for the second half of the school year to begin!

We kicked the week off by providing refreshments for a packed room at this month’s Coffee with the Principal, featuring a presentation on course registration given by AP Andrew Nasser and AP Allison Davis. Afterward, some parents stayed to ask additional questions while others visited the planetarium, where they were treated to a presentation by student and astronomy club officer Amy Sooraj with the support of Physics teacher John Powell. Please see below for pictures! Thank you to Hospitality Chair Lilach Bar for the coffee, which was definitely appreciated by all!

On Friday, January 26, as the midyear week wound down, the PA hosted a thank you luncheon for our dedicated staff and teachers as a small token of our gratitude. Thank you again to Lilach Bar for doing the prep work, and to Lilach, Kosaku Shinoda, and our executive board members who helped serve the lunches.

If you missed the course selection presentation, Dr. Davis and Mr. Nasser will be presenting a reprise at our next PA meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, February 13 at 7 PM in-person at the school. This information will also be given to 9th and 10th graders in their advisory sessions in the coming weeks. For senior families and those who are already comfortable with the registration process, we will have a simultaneous panel of parents of alumni speaking on What I Wish I Knew Before My Kid Went to College, moderated by former Bronx Science PA President and alum, Cliff Stanton, ‘81. Refreshments will be served prior to the meeting, beginning at 6:30. An RSVP link will be shared next week.

We’d like to remind you to save the date for the Spring Gala, to be held on April 11, 2024, at Temple Emanu-El. Tickets will be available in mid-February. In the meantime, please check out our gala website at this link, see the posts below for more information on how you can help us make the evening a success, and watch for our weekly sponsored Gala newsletters every Wednesday leading up to the Gala.

Finally, we’d like to remind you that we are still seeking to build our Technology team and to add a Co-Chair to our very busy Hospitality team. Properly staffed, these ongoing roles can have somewhat flexible hours and make a big impact on our community, so we really do hope to hear from you! See the post below, and if you have any questions at all, please email us at president@bxsciencepa.org.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Polkovitz, Jennifer Allen-Cheng, and Christine Kattan
