Dear Fellow Bronx Science Parents and Guardians,

It’s only been two weeks since we’ve returned to school, but we have a lot to share with you.

Thanks to everyone who joined our first PA meeting of the new year! We covered several items, but the highlight of the evening was our “What I Wish I Knew Before My Kid Went to College” panel of parents of Bronx Science graduates, moderated by fellow parent and Bronx Science alumnus Cliff Stanton. A special thanks to Cliff and panelists Jerome Kramer, Jean Lee Yamner, Lisa Yellin, Rebecca Barreras, Roxana Cheng and Yasmin Khakoo who shared their experiences and valuable insights which fostered a lighthearted, informative and fun evening. Their example demonstrates that our community extends beyond the four years our students spend at the school. If you were unable to attend this month’s meeting, you can find this panel discussion at the 35:54 mark here. And finally, we would like to extend thanks to fellow Bronx Science parent Ernie Sander who ran the technology portion of our meeting. We welcome him to the team of volunteers who keep the PA running smoothly and serve our community.

Our President’s Report for the evening included important updates on potential changes to the Fair Student Funding portion of our school’s budget. It is our mission to keep our community informed of the latest developments and to outline specific action items when known. If you missed this report, it can be found at the 16:02 mark here. This summary includes a description of Fair Student Funding, some recommended changes, current action items and helpful talking points. As we receive updated pertinent information or additional action items, we will keep you informed. Please stay connected with us by attending our PA meetings and reading our e-newsletters. We will be calling on our community for your full support.

In the meantime…

It’s hard to believe our Spring Gala is only four months away. The gala is the PA’s second largest fundraiser, and this is another area where we need our community to step up and help. The committee needs donations and volunteers! Please reach out to our Co-Chairs Gabrielle Koelbel and Shirah Wercberger at auctionchair@bxsciencepa.org for more information. Ways to help are also included in the most recent gala update at the 12:45 mark here.

Wellness Walks are back for the winter! These walks are a great way for members of our community to connect and get some exercise. All family members are welcome! We currently have the Upper West Side Wellness Walks scheduled! The first UWS walk is happening TODAY at 3 PM. To get more details on today’s walk, please see the Wellness Walk post below. If you are interested in leading a Wellness Walk in your neighborhood, please reach out to us at president@bxsciencepa.org.

As we head into the long weekend, we reflect on the life, impact and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We hope our community takes a moment to reflect this weekend and look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,

Christine Kattan, Jayesh Patel and Elizabeth Polkovitz

Former and current BxSci parents came together to be a part of an informative panel during our January PA Meeting.

Thank you to the World Language Department for sharing pictures from their Holiday Singing Contest. Winners here show their appreciation to the PA for supporting event prizes. The PA is delighted to support them along with many clubs, activities, academic and athletic teams, not to mention much more! Please donate to the Annual Appeal today to continue supporting our students.
