Bronx High School of Science Parents' Assocation

News from our Co-Presidents: September 26, 2021

Dear Fellow Parents & Guardians,

We held our first General PA meeting of the year this past Wednesday. The more than 250 parents who attended were treated to a Back-to-School Report by Principal Rachel Hoyle, and got to meet key members of the school administration, including Assistant Principal Phoebe Cooper and Parent Coordinator Cindy Golan. But the evening belonged to Assistant Principal, Andrew Nasser who gave another of his stellar presentations, this time on Rebooting High School. You can view it in its entirety here

In other news, we are pleased to report that the PA budget for 2021-22 was adopted unanimously this week, which included $30,000 for a one-time expenditure to help pay for furniture and accoutrements for what will soon become the new Bronx Science Student Center (see renderings below). These funds, when added to the $21,000 raised at last May’s auction, will be a significant contribution to the $276,000 total price tag for furnishings. But the real credit for this $2 million plus renovation goes to the Bronx Science Alumni Foundation, which provided the seed money and spearheaded the advocacy effort with the city. Phase 2 of 3 is nearly complete. With the order for the furniture placed and delivery/installation expected around the New Year, our students will soon have a state-of-art Student Center in which to dine, re-charge and chill. But that’s not all…

“A lot of kids hang out at the tables,” Max Kramer, ’22 says regarding the new picnic furniture in the courtyard, also provided by the Alumni Foundation. “So I think it allows a lot more people to go outside.” Good news indeed, Max.

Cheers,
Jerome Kramer and Cliff Stanton
