Bronx High School of Science Parents' Assocation

Welcome Message from our Co-Presidents – March 15, 2015

March 15, 2015

Dear Bronx Science Families,

The coming two weeks at Bronx Science will be a whirlwind of activity for both students and parents. The PA holds its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 17th at 7:00 pm. Please join us and hear from our featured speaker, Dave Marcus, author of “ACCEPTANCE: A Legendary Guidance Counselor Helps Seven Kids Find the Right College – and Find Themselves”. Dave’s presentation, entitled “Seven Secrets of College Admission”, will highlight smart strategies for applying to the right college, dealing with the unexpected, and thriving during the admissions process. Dave covered admissions for U.S. News & World Report, and he’s worked as an admissions consultant and essay coach. He is a graduate of Brown and was a fellow at Harvard. His presentation is for all grades, as seniors are still making decisions. You may sample a piece of Dave’s writing by clicking on the following link: The Real Secrets of Admissions. Following Dave’s talk, the Executive Board of the PA will discuss important upcoming business, including the formation of a Nominating Committee, to fill the many positions to be vacated by our graduating senior parents.

The following night is Accepted Students Night for parents and children, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Thanks to all of you who have volunteered to help answer prospective parents’ questions, give directions, and sell PA merchandise.

The SLT will have their monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 24th at 3:45 pm in the Principal’s office. Parents and caregivers are welcome to attend.

Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, March 26th from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, and Friday, March 27th from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm. Free Vallo transportation is provided for the Thursday conferences only. On Thursday, the PA provides a dinner for the administration and the faculty prior to the conferences. We need volunteers from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm for setup, serving, and cleanup. Should you be able to help out, go to the appropriate link below and sign up.

We’d also like to congratulate both the boys and girls Robotics teams, who have been competing this weekend in New York City FIRST (for inspiration and recognition in Science and Technology), along with over 200 other teams at the Javits Center.

We hope to see many of you at all these upcoming events. We’ll all be looking for Spring Break by the time they are over!!
